Canon MVX2i MiniDV Digital Video Camcorder - no picture FAULTY

Camcorder is turning on, can see various indicators on the screen, but there is no picture, in record or play mode, on the screen or in the viewfinder. It does seem to be recording, the count of recordings increases, but you cant see any picture.
